Tuesday 31 January - Requests for Concerts and NGO Music School Funding for 2017 SAMRO Foundation, on behalf of Concerts SA, offers grants to university music departments for performances by orchestras or ensembles. These grants are subject to applications from the various institutions who wish to perform works by South African composers who are members of SAMRO. Universities currently receiving these grants are: Odeion School of Music (UFS), North-West University, Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of Pretoria, Rhodes and Wits University. Tuesday 31 January - Requests for Commissions SAMRO remains one of the few organisations in South Africa that support composers by commissioning them to write new works. This ensures a steady supply of fresh, original local compositions that benefit the industry and country as a whole. In the past, SAMRO Foundation has received requests for commissions from conductors, artists, universities or organisers of music competitions, concerts and festivals.

Friday 31 March - SAMRO Music Bursary Applications Each year the SAMRO Foundation invites applications for bursaries for music studies. The SAMRO Foundation accepts applications from:

  • full-time students,
  • registered at a South African University, in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, or honours and masters degrees, who are
  • Citizens of South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho or Swaziland, who are
  • studying for a degree or diploma majoring in music.

Due to limited resources the Foundation cannot support

  • students from private higher education institutions;
  • university students in their 1st year of study;
  • students in foundation or bridging programmes;
  • students specialising in Musical Theatre or Music Therapy;
  • Doctoral level students

Each bursary is worth R10 000.

15 May 2017 - 2017 SAMRO Overseas Scholarships for Keyboard Players Applications for the Overseas Scholarships from Pianists, Organists, Harpsichordists and other keyboards will be due by 15 May 2017.
